Industry Knowledge
Jiangsu Liangwang Technology Co., Ltd. manufactures modified atmosphere packaging trays for processors, packers and distributors that need controlled-atmosphere packaging to hold colour, texture and shelf life across the cold chain. We produce thermoformed trays in food-grade PP, PET and PS, and support the full fresh food tray family from our base in Suzhou, China.
Our MAP trays are used for raw meat, poultry, seafood, fruit, vegetables and prepared fresh foods. We work from the product, the pack line and the target shelf life, then confirm material, wall thickness, cavity layout, barrier requirements and sealing compatibility before tooling is released.
What We Manufacture in This Category
Our modified atmosphere fresh food tray range covers the formats most often specified for gas-flushed and vacuum-skin packaging lines. Trays are thermoformed on German ILLIG equipment in a Class 100,000 GMP purification workshop, which keeps dimensional consistency and surface quality stable across long production runs.
- Salmon food-grade plastic MAP trays — deep-draw formats for fish portions, with smooth rims for lidding film adhesion.
- Square white PP fresh food MAP trays — high-clarity or opaque PP for retail display of meat, cheese and deli items.
- Compartment PP MAP trays — multi-cavity designs that separate proteins, sides or mixed ingredients in one sealed pack.
Material options include PP, PET and PS for plastic trays, plus PLA, bagasse, wheat straw and bamboo fibre for buyers moving toward bio-based packaging. We also produce food-grade coated paper and laminated paper formats where the application allows.
Where Modified Atmosphere Trays Fit
MAP trays are specified when the product needs a longer usable life than a simple overwrapped tray can deliver. The tray itself must hold its shape under gas pressure, resist moisture and fats, and seal cleanly to the lidding film so the modified atmosphere stays inside the pack.
| Application |
Typical Tray Format |
Key Consideration |
| Fresh salmon and white fish |
Deep PP or PET tray, smooth rim |
Rim flatness for gas-tight lidding |
| Beef, pork and poultry cuts |
Square or rectangular PP tray |
Fat and moisture resistance, stack strength |
| Prepared meals and deli |
Compartment PP tray |
Cavity separation and seal integrity |
| Fruit, vegetables and salads |
Shallow PET or PP tray |
Clarity, ventilation and condensation control |
Material and Barrier Selection
The tray material sets the baseline for gas retention, seal performance and appearance. We match the polymer to the product's fat content, pH, fill temperature and the atmosphere the packer intends to use.
- PP — good moisture barrier, heat resistance and toughness; widely used for meat, poultry and prepared foods.
- PET — high clarity and stiffness; suited to chilled display where product visibility matters.
- PS — rigid and cost-effective for short-life chilled items.
- Bio-based options — PLA, bagasse, wheat straw and bamboo fibre for markets with plastic-reduction targets.
Where a high-barrier structure is required, we discuss multilayer or coated options and the corresponding lidding film specification so the tray and film work as one sealing system.
Configuration Options We Build
Every MAP tray project starts from the pack line and the retail or foodservice format. We confirm the variables below before releasing a mould design.
- External dimensions, corner radius and flange width
- Depth and draft angle for product fill and de-nesting
- Wall thickness and base ribbing for stiffness
- Single or multi-compartment cavity layout
- Colour, gloss, matte or textured surface finish
- Logo printing, embossing or in-mould labelling
- Stacking lugs and de-nesting features for automated lines
We also produce related formats in the same fresh food tray family, including Fresh Food Skin Pack Tray and Wood Grain Fresh Food Tray, so a single supplier can cover more than one pack style.
Line Integration and Tooling
MAP trays run on thermoform-fill-seal lines, tray sealers and vacuum-skin machines. Tray geometry has to match the denester, the conveyor and the sealing die, so as MAP trays suppliers we treat the tray as part of the line rather than a standalone item.
Our ODM/OEM process follows six stages: needs communication, solution concept, mould manufacturing, sample testing, mass production, and quality control and shipping. Samples are produced for fit and seal trials before full tooling is committed, which reduces the risk of a mismatch between tray, film and sealing equipment.
Quality Control and Compliance
Food contact compliance is built into material selection and production. We hold ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO22000 and BRC Grade A management system certifications, and our products meet FDA requirements. The Class 100,000 GMP purification workshop and on-site laboratory support incoming material checks, in-process inspection and finished goods testing.
For each order we can provide the material declaration, dimensional report and batch traceability records that packers and retailers need for their own acceptance procedures. Where a customer's market requires additional documentation, we confirm what is available before the order is placed.
Information We Use to Configure Your Solution
To prepare an accurate tray specification and quotation, we need the following project inputs. The more detail you provide at the start, the faster we can move to a sample.
| Input |
Why It Matters |
| Product type and weight |
Determines tray depth, wall thickness and base support |
| Target shelf life and atmosphere |
Sets barrier and seal requirements |
| Pack line and sealing equipment |
Confirms denesting, flange and die compatibility |
| Tray dimensions or existing sample |
Allows direct matching or reverse engineering |
| Material and colour preference |
Aligns appearance and recyclability with brand policy |
| Order quantity and delivery schedule |
Guides tooling and production planning |
Our MOQ is 5000 pcs, and delivery is generally 15–30 days after order confirmation. Small batch orders can be completed within half a month. Payment terms include T/T, L/C and Western Union. We respond to quote requests within 24 hours on business days.
Related Packaging in Our Range
Beyond MAP trays, we manufacture a broader food packaging portfolio that supports the same cold chain and retail programmes. The product range includes disposable plastic cups, eco-friendly food containers, baking packaging and the full fresh food tray series.
Frequently Asked Questions
What materials do you use for modified atmosphere fresh food trays?
We thermoform MAP trays in food-grade PP, PET and PS, and also offer PLA, bagasse, wheat straw and bamboo fibre for bio-based requirements. The choice depends on the product, the target shelf life and the sealing film.
Can you produce trays to match our existing sealing equipment?
Yes. We work from your tray drawing or a physical sample and confirm flange width, corner radius, depth and denesting features against your sealer or thermoform-fill-seal line before tooling is released.
What is your minimum order quantity and lead time?
Our MOQ is 5000 pcs. Standard delivery is 15–30 days after order confirmation, and small batch orders can be completed within half a month.
Do you provide samples before mass production?
Yes. Our ODM/OEM process includes a sample testing stage after mould manufacturing, so you can verify fit, seal and appearance before committing to full production.
What certifications do your MAP trays carry?
We hold ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO22000 and BRC Grade A management system certifications, and our products meet FDA requirements. Material declarations and batch traceability records are available for customer acceptance.
Can you add compartments or custom branding to the tray?
Yes. We support multi-compartment cavity layouts, colour matching, matte or gloss finishes, textured surfaces, logo printing, embossing and in-mould labelling as part of our custom MAP tray service.
